Join Mainstay favorites Sue Matthews on vocals, Steve Abshire on guitar, Robert Redd on piano and Tom Anthony on bass for an evening of standards with Sue's smoky, silky vocals and Steve's brilliant bluesy guitar taking the lead. Sue has made a name for herself far and wide for her perfect phrasing, her gutsy approach to the blues and her ability to tease every last ounce of meaning from a song. Steve Abshire was lead guitarist for 17 years with the Navy Commodores Jazz Band and has been an essential part of the Mainstay house band with his exquisite lead and rock-solid rhythm guitar. Steve collaborated with Sue on her recent CD 'Live at the Mainstay'. They are joined by pianist Robert Redd and bassist Tom Anthony. Jazz improvisation at its finest!

| The Obsoleets are an American roots string band and show orchestra. This five piece band performed regionally at venues from New York City to Wilmington, Delaware. Most recently they opened for Chris Thomas King of 'Oh, Brother Where Art Thou' fame at the Kennett Flash in Kennett Square, PA. The core of the band, John Stovicek (guitar, banjo, mandolin), Parris Bradley (tenor guitar, ukulele, tiple, can-jo) and Steven Patrick Smith (percussion), is made up of theatre veterans who have collaborated on many performance projects including soundscape performances, original musicals, sound design for theatre productions (Arden Theatre Company, Villanova University, Amaryllis Theatre Company), Fringe Festivals (Philadelphia, New York) and national acting/directing theatre credits. Rounding out this dynamic five piece band is jazz artist Alan Lewine on upright bass and Qin Qian on erhu ('Chinese violin') who each have strong followings and national performance credits. Together they are clearing out the cobwebs on some choice old American Roots and Blues chestnuts, cooking up the blues classics and serving them greasy. Outdoors behind the Mainstay but the concert moves inside in case of rain. Bring a lawn chair. Free. |
