Clarinetist John Doughten has put together an all-star band for a tribute to the music of the 'King of Swing'. John is familiar to Mainstay regulars as the versatile reedsman (clarinet and sax) in the house band Max n' Friends. In keeping with Goodman's penchant for surrounding his soaring clarinet with musicians like Lionel Hampton, Gene Krupa, Charlie Christian and Teddy Wilson, Doughten has chosen Chuck Redd on vibes, Steve Abshire on guitar, Brooks Tegler on drums and John Sheridan on piano for this tribute.

Though he started playing music at the relatively late age of 17, he made up for lost time by majoring in music at Howard University and then meeting his musical idols one by one and learning directly from them. He loved the music of rock pioneers like Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and Jerry Lee Lewis and dug deep into the music of his idols. He is a great singer, pianist, guitarist, composer and fantastic boogie-woogie player. This will be blues, rock and roll and boogie woogie from a master! Call for reservations. Tickets are $15. |
