ROCK
HALL SKIPPERS WIN MAYOR'S CUP COMPETITION
ROCK
HALL, MD -- Rock Hall skippers Dave McAleer and Rich Tobey
both earned mention on the Mayor's Cup perpetual trophy as this
community's 2005 Friday evening sailing series wrapped up an eight-race
series on August 26.
McAleer
won the non-spinnaker series for the second consecutive year sailing
his MAC 30, 'Caribbean Soul' to first place on corrected time
in the final race. It was a race he needed to win for the title.
Tobey
sailed 'Blithe Spirit,' a Hunter 40, to a tie on points with Tony
Bosworth of Wilmington in the spinnaker division series, edging
Bosworth's J-27, 'Independence,' by two minutes on corrected time
in the final race, enough for fourth place. Bosworth finished
fifth. Tobey had accumulated more first place finishes in the
series, and on that basis he was named series winner.
Rock
Hall Mayor Jay Jacobs congratulated the series winners at a post-race
dinner sponsored by Sailing Emporium Marina on this occasion.
He reminded the group that the perpetual trophy will be displayed
in the Rock Hall Town Council Chamber. The Friday evening sailing
series known as 'Rock Hall Race Night operates under the auspices
of Rock Hall Yacht Club.
Fourteen
yachts turned out for the final race in southeast winds averaging
6.4 knots. Complete results follow:
