“Did you know?”

Intex/Inflatable Pools

Hello everyone! Its time again for another “Did you know?” segment. The weather has been a bit unbearable with the heat lately, prompting quite a few residents putting up Intex/Inflatable pools. There have been concerns about whether they fall into the same category as a regular pool and if there is a need for a permit for the pool, and a permit to install fencing around it as well. The answer is YES. The code is as follows…….

Code 225-6-1-MM:

Swimming pools, private. Accessory swimming pools, enclosed or unenclosed, may occupy a required rear or side yard, provided that they are not located closer than six feet to a rear lot line or 10 feet to an interior side lot line. A walking space at least three feet wide shall be provided between pool walls and protective fences or barrier walls. All unenclosed swimming pools containing two feet of water or more shall be protected by a safety fence or barrier of four feet in height minimum and approved by the Administrator. Self-closing access gates shall be required. A permit is required for both the pool and safety fence or barrier before the erection of either.

The biggest issue we see with this is that of safety. These pools can be smaller in height than traditional above ground pools making it easier for children and even pets to gain access to them. Below is also a snapshot of Intex information taken from their website. Please be aware that many of these pools will say in the directions that you should check your local building code as it may require a permit for the pool along with a permit for childproof fencing.

Permits can be acquired here at the Town Hall Office or by getting the forms on this site. A simple Zoning Permit will work for both. If you need help with the permit paperwork, I will gladly help with that. The fee is $50 for the pool and $50 for the fence. This is a small price to pay for the safety of our community. If anyone has any questions do not hesitate to call 410-639-7611 xt5 and I will address all questions. Stay cool and be safe everyone!
