PUBLIC NOTICE

Charter Amendment Resolution No. 2024-01

The purpose of this public notice is to notify the citizens of the Town of Rock Hall of the Council’s adoption of Charter Amendment Resolution No. 2024-01 during their regular monthly meeting held on March 14, 2024.

Charter Amendment Resolution No. 2024-01 amends the Municipal Charter of the Town of Rock Hall (as published in Chapter 125, Volume 7, Compilation of Municipal Charters) for the purposes of providing that Town elections for the Mayor and Councilpersons shall be held on the first Saturday in March beginning in 2025 and continuing thereafter and adjusting other dates related to Town elections for consistency therewith, and providing that, beginning with those Councilpersons elected in 2025 and continuing thereafter that the Mayor and Councilpersons shall not receive a salary or other compensation but may be entitled to reimbursement for reasonable expenses incurred while traveling on Town business, subject to certain conditions.

The foregoing constitutes a fair summary of Charter Amendment Resolution No. 2024-01. 

Charter Amendment Resolution No. 2024-01 shall become and be considered a part of the Charter in all respects, to be effective and observed as such, on May 3, 2024, unless a petition for referendum meeting the requirements of Md. Code Ann., Local Gov’t § 4-304(d) is either hand delivered or mailed via certified mail, return receipt requested and bearing a postmark from the U.S. Postal Service to the Town of Rock Hall, 5585 Main Street, Rock Hall, Maryland 21661, on or before April 23, 2024.
