Twin brothers Joe and Paul Midiri met Joe Holt in 1974, in high school, and formed their first working group, "A Couple of Joe's Trio" (modeled after the iconic Benny Goodman trio of the swing era). They all continued to pursue independent careers as professional musicians, but remained connected along the way. Joe Holt is certainly no stranger to our audiences as jazz pianist, accompanist, and impresario of the Mainstay’s First Friday collaborations. The Midiri Brothers have been evangelists on behalf of New Orleans jazz, swing and big band and small group formats, and have been inspired by such Swing-era titans as Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw and Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey. The New Jersey natives have spread the good word at major jazz festivals, top venues and on their recordings, as they worked their way upward to national recognition The Mainstay show marks the approach of their 50th anniversary of that first collaboration – a homecoming that reunites the original trio, with an expanded concept; Joe Midiri on clarinet and saxes, Paul on drums and vibes, and Joe Holt on piano, paying tribute to the great music and musicians of the swing and Big Band era. And having a crazy fun time doing it.
