MAINSTAY - Joe Holt's "First Friday" with Sharon Sable
The Mainstay is excited to kick off another year of pianist Joe Holt’s monthly “First Friday” shows – each with a different guest list and one of Joe’s carefully crafted themes. His first show for 2024 welcomes one of the Mainstay’s favorite vocalists, Sharon Sable, in a celebration of their joint 2023 CD release “Once Upon a Summertime – The Music of Blossom Dearie”. Joe and Sharon will be backed by Amy Shook on bass and Mary Lou Norman on sax.
Blossom Dearie (1924-2009) was known for her unpretentious vocal delivery and her own sophisticated piano accompaniment. Her music was ethereal, understated, impressive and bold. She performed lesser-known gems of the Great American Songbook, and went on to write and record original material with Johnny Mercer, Michel Legrand and even Sting. Sharon and Joe honor the unique voice and remarkable repertoire of this beloved jazz icon.
