MAINSTAY - The Allyn Johnson Quartet with Guest Vocalist Christie Dashiell
The Mainstay is excited to welcome back jazz pianist Allyn Johnson and his quartet.
Pianist Johnson stands as one of the most influential figures in the Washington D.C. jazz scene. Adding to his jazz prowess, the blues is evident with every note he plays.
A native of D.C., Johnson began playing the piano at the age of five and honed his talent and skills as the pianist in his uncle’s church. He credits his “improvisational intuition” to those days playing in church (church musicians call this fluency ‘flowing in the Spirit’).
While Johnson’s professional career was quick to receive considerable local recognition, he never moved away in pursuit of the world stage. He is now known as both a performer who can consistently draw capacity crowds to jazz venues, and an educator (he is the director of Jazz Studies at the University of the District of Columbia).
Johnson’s quartet will be joined by the soulful vocals of Christie Dashiell.
