Mayor Brian Jones receives Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission Award

On Monday, June 4th, 2018 Mayor Brian Jones received the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission award in Annapolis at the State House during the Sixth Annual Sustainable Growth Awards Ceremony. 

Mayor Jones received the award in the Leadership & Service category for activities and accomplishments that have advanced public appreciation understanding and/or involvement in promoting smart growth and sustainable communities at the local, regional or state level. 

The Growth Awards are the highest level of recognition for well-planned economic and community development and sustainability in the state. The Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission was established by the Maryland General Assembly in 2010, and celebrates smart growth achievements with an annual awards program. The six recipients that were recognized today exemplify a commitment to successful, sustainable communities. The remaining recipients were: Anacostia River Trail, City of Havre de Grace Opera House Renovation, R House Food Court Renovation in Baltimore, and Stavros Niarchos Foundation Parkway Theatre in Prince George's County. 

"I was inspired by all of the award winners who are motivated to move sustainable growth forward and creatively re-purpose and re-design obsolete spaces" said Mayor Jones. 

Mayor Jones was joined at the awards ceremony by: Susan Sommers, Chair of the Maryland Sustainable Growth Commission, Robert S. McCord, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Planning, Wendi W. Peters, Special Secretary of Smart Growth, Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio, Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of Governor, Stephen S. Hershey Jr., Senator for District 36, Steven J. Arentz, State Delegate for District 36, Jay A. Jacobs, State Delegate for District 36, Rosalie Kuechler, Vice Mayor for the Town of Rock Hall, Meg Parry, Main Street Manager and Grant Writer for the Town of Rock Hall. 

After the ceremony Mayor Jones, Vice Mayor Kuechler and Main Street Manager Meg Parry were treated to a tour of the House of Delegates Chamber with Delegate Jacobs and Delegate Arentz. 

"I would like to send a special thanks to everyone who has contributed to the success of the initiatives and programs that have been brought to the table including my colleagues on the Town Council, and most of all the citizens of Rock Hall. I look forward to what we will accomplish in the future" said Mayor Jones.
