Rock Hall Waterfront Master Plan

ROCK HALL INVITES COMMUNITY TO WATERFRONT DESIGN WORKSHOP

The Town of Rock Hall is sponsoring a two-day waterfront community design workshop on October 27 and 28 to advance the Town’s Waterfront Master Plan.

The workshop will focus on three areas that emerged as having the strongest interest from the initial public meeting held last August and through the community on-line survey:

Preserving and maintaining opportunities for water dependent businesses

Enhancing the waterfront to attract more visitors

Managing the waterfront to increase economic activity through heritage- and nature-based tourism and improving linkages to Rock Hall’s Main Street and nearby attractions

Discussions at the first public meeting resulted in an overall approach for balancing the needs of working watermen and opportunities for attracting more visitors to Rock Hall.  The recommended approach is to first, preserve and maintain what is needed to support the watermen’s needs (and perhaps some modest expansion) then identify enhancements that support increased economic activity through heritage- or nature-based tourism.

The Rock Hall Waterfront Committee is inviting anyone with an interest or an idea to participate in one or more of the planned community design workshop sessions on Thursday, October 27 and Friday, October 28, 2016.  Planned sessions will include

Thursday, October 27 from 3PM to 5PM: Waterfront Enhancement Walking Tour – join waterfront planners in a walking tour to discuss the preliminary ideas for preserving and enhancing the waterfront

October 27 from 7PM to 9PM:  Public Meeting to review the preliminary planning concepts and help the Committee to establish priorities

Friday, October 28 from 10AM to-12 NOON: to discuss how the waterfront area can contribute to the overall economic health of Rock Hall through heritage- and nature-based tourism

Friday, October 28 from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM: to discuss how Rock Hall has handled flooding in the past, and how the Town can add onto historic strategies to become more resilient;

Friday, October 28 from 4:30 PM-5:30 PM – join the waterfront planners for a social hour to discuss the results of the two-day workshop and what came out as priorities and recommendations.

Those interested in participating or wanting more information are asked to visit the Town Hall website at: http://www.rockhallmd.com/town-hall to download the preliminary agenda for the two-day workshop.
