The Town of Rock Hall and RHAD (Rock Hall Against Drugs) is joining the Maryland Municipal League (MML) and other local municipalities’ efforts to raise awareness about substance use and the opioid crisis.  The Mayor and Council voted during the December 3rd, 2018 Workshop Meeting to partner and promote the ongoing awareness campaign provided by Discovery Education.

The DEA and Discovery Education have joined forces to combat a growing epidemic of prescription opioid misuse and heroin use nationwide. Operation Prevention's mission is to educate students about the true impacts of opioids and kick-start lifesaving conversations in the home and classroom.

Since its launch, Operation Prevention has reached over 2M students nationwide.

The Town is also making available a publication, the “Parent Toolkit,” produced by Discovery Education, which provides:

Background information on the facts versus the myths of addiction;

Information on how to recognize the common signs of potential drug abuse in children and teenagers;

Recommendations on starting a conversation with children about drug abuse; and

Suggestions for prevention of abuse and Intervention if abuse occurs.
