"Did you know?"

Junk Cars

“Did You Know?”

As promised, this is the first edition of the “Did you know?” series to help inform the residents of Rock Hall about codes and the reason for them. Today I would like to address:

Chapter 157-2 Nuisances and Public Hazards

157-2 (K): Vehicles not legally tagged or registered.

(Vehicles as described in 157-1 Definitions is considered a device such as a piece of mechanized equipment, for transporting goods, passengers, or equipment, including but not limited to cars, trucks, motorcycles, and boats.)

So why is this code so especially important to the community? Well, there are many reasons, but I would like to focus on some that do not come to mind. The previous letter I put out and touched base on my experience and time spent with a waterman and the information and adoration he has for the wildlife and waters here in Rock Hall. The first component I’d like to touch on is the view and or sight. Vehicles not tagged or registered (including boats) are an eye sore for some. My interpretation though on this issue is the harm it causes for our waterway’s marine life and the safety of the residents! Over time the moisture and decomposition of the vehicle has potential to cause leaks in the areas where fluids like gas, oil, antifreeze, and other liquids end up on the ground thus leaching into our waterways, causing significant issues. Its harmful to the marine life, other animals, and ourselves as well. It is also a health issue. Abandoned vehicles create a habitat for unwanted vermin. Eventually these “critters” make their way to homes leading to unsanitary issues. There are options to remove junk vehicles and I am here to help with that! There are places who will pay to remove them for you! They can be recycled and that is some help as well to our planet in itself! I ask those who have an abandoned/untagged/registered vehicle to do the right thing and remove them. Help save the community! Do your part! Let us help each other clean up Rock Hall! As always stay safe everyone! And until next time, anything I can help with, please contact me! Thank you!
